History trail to National Socialism

The historical path to National Socialism leads its participants to authentic places of National Socialism in the city center of Tübingen, via 16 stops.

Tübingen was already a regional stronghold of National Socialism before 1933. The university already prided itself in 1933 that it was Jew-free. In 1933, the municipal council was the first city nationwide to enforce the so-called outdoor pool decision, which prohibited Jewish citizens from visiting the outdoor pool. Some of the National Socialists directly involved in the Holocaust and the deportation of Jewish citizens at the highest level also came from Tübingen.

The history workshop offers public guided tours for school classes and other groups. If you are interested, please contact:

The History Workshop Tübingen therefore campaigned for a historical trail early on in order to inform not only the citizens of Tübingen, but also the many visitors to the university city about the participation of Tübingen residents in the crimes of National Socialism.

The historical trail on National Socialism, introduced in 2016, leads through 16 stops, authentic palces of National Socialism in the city center of Tübingen. At each station - recognizable by a steel stela - information is provided about the respective history. Via a QR code, the website of the history path can be accessed in both German and in an English version.

The university city of Tübingen participated in the implementation and financing of the historical trail. The members of the Working Group History Trail (consisting of members of the History Workshop Tübingen, the Working Group University of National Socialism, the Young History Workshop, the Youth Community Council Tübingen and the Department of Art and Culture of the University City of Tübingen) produced the contents of the individual steles. The Ulm office Braun Engels Gestaltung was commissioned with the graphic design and implementation.
